The demands placed on road haulage are constantly increasing. Haulage contractors are under pressure to reduce fuel consumption and CO₂ emissions whilst remaining profitable. In this context, another factor is increasingly coming into focus: the aerodynamics of the trailer.
At IAA Transportation 2026, KRONE will therefore be presenting new aerodynamic solutions fitted to the Profi Liner, which specifically target the area where a large proportion of the aerodynamic drag on semi-trailers is generated: the rear of the vehicle.
With the KRONE Aero Rear Concept and the KRONE Boat-Tail, the company is introducing two solutions that optimise the airflow behind the vehicle, thereby reducing the energy consumption of the entire vehicle combination. Whilst both systems take different approaches, they share a common goal: greater efficiency in day-to-day transport operations.
Improving aerodynamics where it has the greatest impact
It is particularly at the rear of a semi-trailer that air turbulence occurs, increasing aerodynamic drag and thus energy consumption. The KRONE Aero Rear Concept improves airflow through an aerodynamically optimised design of the vehicle’s rear end. At the same time, lighting and registration plate elements have been cleverly integrated to minimise disruption to the airflow. The result is lower fuel consumption and reduced CO₂ emissions in real-world transport operations.
The Boat-Tail, which will soon be available to order, goes one step further. The system extends the rear section of the vehicle with aerodynamic elements that specifically guide the airflow, thereby reducing drag behind the trailer. This can lead to noticeable savings, particularly in long-haul transport.
Efficiency without extra effort
During development, particular emphasis was placed on practicality. Both systems operate without requiring any additional actions from the driver. The Aero-Rear concept is designed as a permanently integrated feature and requires no intervention during day-to-day operation. The Boat-Tail automatically follows the movement of the tailgate panels when they are opened and closed. No additional steps or separate locking mechanisms are required.

Our new aerodynamic solutions improve the efficiency of the entire vehicle without altering the driver’s usual workflow.
